Green Thumbs

The RPC Green Thumbs is a small group of fun-loving gardeners from the congregation who work diligently once a week to clean, maintain, and add beauty to the grounds surrounding the church. Starting over ten years ago, the group developed a landscape plan that would add low maintenance trees, shrubs, and plants to fill in bare areas and that would replace plant materials that had outlived their usefulness. With support from the Trustees and generous donations from the congregation, the group has transformed the appearance of the church so that it has a more inviting presence to all who pass by on foot or in cars, and it has increased the beauty of our historic Rockledge neighborhood. More than that, revitalizing our church property has underscored the fact that we are good stewards of the wonderful location that God has provided us on the Indian River.

Because The Green Thumbs is a small group, it welcomes volunteers from the congregation to help in maintaining and improving the grounds. The “Thumbs” meet at the church every Thursday afternoon and work for a few hours – weather permitting. Not only does the group connect with one another during work and occasional after-work meals, we also connect with many of our neighbors who stop to chat and admire our work. Those interested in joining our “merry band” can contact Pat at patbaggot@aol.com. Those unable to work, but who would like to contribute to the effort, can place a check out to Rockledge Presbyterian Church in the offering plate on Sundays. Just designate on the memo line – Green Thumbs.
